Sezin Aksoy Explores Transformation as a Living Condition in “Transessence”

In *Transessence*, Sezin Aksoy approaches transformation not as a fixed moment but as a continuous state of becoming, unfolding through layered works that blur the boundaries between the visual, the intuitive, and the experiential.

London-based artist Sezin Aksoy presents Transessence, a new solo exhibition curated by İlayda Uzunarslan, on view at 67 York Street Gallery from April 30 to May 8, 2026. The exhibition brings together a body of work that approaches transformation not as a singular event, but as an ongoing condition shaping existence through time, form, and perception.

At the core of Aksoy’s practice lies the notion of “trans” as a continuous state of becoming. Moving beyond the idea of transformation as mere physical change, the artist frames it as an active force—an energy that circulates through matter, thought, and consciousness. This perspective foregrounds an understanding of existence as inherently unstable and interconnected, where each element exists in relation to another, in constant flux.

Working across painting and performance, Aksoy translates this dynamic into visual and spatial form. Her compositions resist fixed structures, instead unfolding through fluid, layered arrangements that reflect the rhythms of time and movement. Rather than representing static realities, the works capture transitional states—moments that oscillate between the personal and the universal.

Expanding beyond a conventional exhibition format, Transessence incorporates a series of performances and conceptual events taking place throughout the week. These interventions extend the exhibition into a temporal experience, inviting viewers not only to observe but to engage with transformation as something lived, sensed, and embodied.

Aksoy’s visual language draws on symbolic imagery, natural elements, and intuitive processes, constructing a field where the visible and the invisible intersect. Animal figures, organic forms, and shifting surfaces emerge as recurring motifs, articulating a sensibility attuned to change, continuity, and perception. Through this approach, the exhibition proposes transformation as an intrinsic condition embedded within all forms of life—one that unfolds across both material and immaterial dimensions.

A graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Aksoy has developed a multidisciplinary practice that continues to evolve between painting and performance. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in London, Istanbul, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Salzburg, and Barcelona.

With Transessence, Aksoy invites a deeper awareness of transformation—one that moves beyond the visual and into the intuitive, opening a space where perception itself becomes fluid.
