Applications are now open for the Germany–Turkey Co-Production Development Fund, organized by İKSV’s Meetings on the Bridge in collaboration with Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Fund. The deadline for submissions for feature-length co-production projects is Tuesday, September 16.
Created in 2011 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) as part of the Istanbul Film Festival’s Meetings on the Bridge, with the support of Anadolu Efes, in collaboration with Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Fund, the Germany–Turkey Co-Production Development Fund will be held for the 15th time this year. The fund was established to support feature-length co-production projects between Germany and Turkey. All feature-length Germany–Turkey co-productions that have not yet begun shooting are eligible to apply until Tuesday, September 16.
Jointly run by Meetings on the Bridge, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, and the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Fund, the Germany–Turkey Co-Production Development Fund aims to support feature-length co-productions and cultural exchange between the two countries. It remains an important resource that encourages new voices and broadens the scope of international co-productions.
Selected projects are expected to reflect strong creative collaboration between filmmakers from Germany and Turkey, promote intercultural partnerships, and bring original cinematic stories to the screen.
Among the 67 films supported by this fund to date are A Tale of Three Sisters (Emin Alper), which had its world premiere in Berlinale’s Main Competition; Album (Mehmetcan Mertoğlu), which premiered at Cannes Critics’ Week; Suddenly(Aslı Özge), which screened in Berlinale Panorama; Until I Lose My Breath (Emine Emel Balcı), which screened in Berlinale Forum; and Blue Bicycle (Ümit Köreken) and Come to My Voice (Hüseyin Karabey), which screened in Berlinale Generation. Other supported titles include My Father’s Wings (Kıvanç Sezer) and Brothers (Ömür Atay), both of which competed at Karlovy Vary; One More Breath (Nisan Dağ), which screened at Tallinn Black Nights; Zuhal (Nazlı Elif Durlu), which screened at Antalya Golden Orange; and Les Enfants Terribles (Ahmet Necdet Cupur), which screened at Visions du Réel. Ela and Hilmi and Ali (Ziya Demirel) returned from the Istanbul Film Festival with four awards; Snow and the Bear (Selcen Ergun) premiered at the Toronto Film Festival; and Dormitory (Nehir Tuna) premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
To date, the fund has provided a total of €1,096,000 in support to Germany–Turkey co-production films.
