The Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum continues its educational programs focusing on art history during the summer months. Under the title Summer Conferences, the museum’s new program covers the historical development of Turkish painting in a broad spectrum ranging from miniature traditions to contemporary art. This five-week conference series will meet art lovers every Saturday throughout August in the BlackBox hall.
The five-week conference series, which will begin on Saturday, August 2, will welcome both art history enthusiasts and participants with academic interests to the BlackBox hall with a perspective that spans from the miniature tradition to the contemporary period. The program, which will take place every Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., brings together expert art historians and academics in the field.
Five-Week Conference Program
The conference series will open with Prof. Dr. Tarkan Okçuoğlu’s session titled “Miniature and the Beginnings of Turkish Painting.” Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate the visual narrative forms of traditional Ottoman aesthetics within the historical context of miniature art. On August 9, Prof. Dr. Gül İrepoğlu will give a presentation titled “Reading History Through Jewelry,” in which she will discuss the meanings of jewelry throughout history, cultural codes in designs, and forms of use.
In the third week of the conference series, Assoc. On August 23, Dr. Ali Kayaalp will evaluate the effects of sociocultural transformations on art from the proclamation of the Republic to the present day under the title “Contemporary Turkish Painting.” The program will conclude on August 30 with a session titled “The Place of Turkish Painting in Western Art.” In this closing speech, Dr. Osman Erden will discuss the visibility, influence, and dialogues of Turkish painting on the international art scene.
