Mahir Polat, who was detained as part of the “urban consensus” investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been placed under house arrest.
Speaking to Halk TV, Polat’s lawyer Erkam Erdem stated:
“Friends are heading to Silivri to welcome him after the release procedures are finalized. We received information from the prosecutor’s office indicating judicial control in the form of house arrest… Despite everything, I can confirm the news. I can’t share further details until I see the official ruling, but I can verify it.”
Mahir Polat Had Been Arrested Within the Scope of the “Urban Consensus” Investigation
Serving as IMM Deputy Secretary General, Polat had been held at Silivri Prison since March 23. He had undergone angiography just two weeks before his arrest and had six stents in his coronary arteries. He reportedly experienced serious blood pressure issues while in custody.
Polat, who suffers from chronic heart and blood pressure problems, had been transferred to the hospital multiple times after his blood pressure reportedly reached critical levels. Most recently, he was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for a medical report, underwent lab tests at a hospital, and was then returned to prison.
At the time of his arrest, Polat had been overseeing the restoration of the historic Fatih Mevlevihanesi as part of his duties at the IMM.
