The 2025 BAFTA Film Awards were held on Sunday at London’s Royal Festival Hall, with actor David Tennant once again hosting the prestigious event.
“Conclave” led the nominations with 12 and ended the night with four wins, including Outstanding British Film and Best Film. The period drama “The Brutalist” also secured four awards, with Brady Corbet winning Best Director and Adrien Brody earning Best Leading Actor.
Meanwhile, “Emilia Peréz” won Best Film Not in the English Language, while Zoe Saldaña continued her award-season success by taking home Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film.
Kieran Culkin, too, continued his winning streak in the supporting actor category for “A Real Pain” and Mikey Madison won the BAFTA for leading actress for “Anora.” Mikey Madison made a big surprise by winning the Best Actress award for her performance in the movie Anora, directed by Sean Baker. In the film, Madison, who plays a sex worker from Brooklyn, meets the son of a Russian oligarch and suddenly marries him. She was deemed worthy of this award, leaving behind strong competitors such as Demi Moore, Cynthia Erivo and Saoirse Ronan.
In her speech after receiving her award, Madison expressed her respect for the sex worker community and said, “Now, I want to stop and get to know the sex worker community. I see you and you want to receive the respect and human dignity you deserve. “I will be your friend and ally,” he said. He then thanked his mother, saying, “My favorite on-screen partner,” and stated that her mother gave him great support by helping him with test shots and practicing his lines. Finally, he said, “I have great admiration for my other candidates. You all gave truly amazing performances. But the biggest reward in this process was having the opportunity to meet all of you,” he shared his feelings.
“The Brutalist” Returned with Two Grand Awards
The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet, left the night with two awards: Brady Corbet was awarded the Best Director and the famous actor Adrien Bordy was awarded the Best Actor award. II. The film, which tells the life of Hungarian architect László Tóth, who immigrated to America after World War II, received critical acclaim for Adrien Brody’s impressive performance.
