Celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year, Dirimart announced that it will open its new location in London’s Mayfair district. Dirimart London, the gallery’s first international gallery space, is preparing to open its doors to art lovers in 2025. The venue spreads on two floors and is located in Mayfair, aiming to position Dirimart at the center of the dynamic art life in London.
Founded in 2002 by Hazer Özil, Dirimart provides a platform for critical dialogue and cultural exchange by bringing together artists from Turkey and the international art scene. With its participation in prestigious art events such as Photo London, Frieze Sculpture, the Venice Biennale, Art Cologne, ART SG, and The Armory Show, the gallery holds a significant place in the global contemporary art landscape. Representing leading Turkish artists such as Ayşe Erkmen, İnci Eviner, Sarkis, and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, as well as internationally renowned figures like Shirin Neshat, Sarah Morris, and Tomokazu Matsuyama, Dirimart’s upcoming gallery in London marks a continuation of its vision to expand its presence in the international art world.
Dirimart’s founder, Hazer Özil, shares his thoughts on the opening of the new London gallery space:
“At Dirimart, expanding our collaboration with artists has always been a priority. In line with our publishing activities and mission to foster critical dialogue, we aim to create an inclusive and international platform. As a gallery that originated in Turkey, our goal in London is to become a global art space—embracing diversity rather than being defined by geographical boundaries. Opening our new gallery in London is a bold step towards advancing our global ambitions and positioning Dirimart as an international gallery.”
The new gallery space, with its inaugural exhibition and 2025 program to be announced in the coming months, seeks not only to support emerging artists but also to serve as a platform for exploring themes such as intergenerational dialogue, regional and individual diversity, and global collaboration.
Dirimart’s London Director, said: “As a gallery that has hosted the first exhibitions in Istanbul for international artists such as Shirin Neshat, Sarah Morris, Candida Höfer, and Hermann Nitsch, and published comprehensive monographs on Ayşe Erkmen, Sarkis, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, our core mission has always been to connect our artists with different geographies. With our new space in London, we aim to further this legacy by introducing our artists to the city’s dynamic art scene and hosting ambitious projects through new exhibitions.”
The gallery space will be renovated by the New York-based architecture firm studioMDA.
