This year’s Met Gala, themed as “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” gathered A-list celebrities at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event held on the first Monday of May each year, serves as a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute, which curates an extensive collection spanning seven centuries of fashion history, boasting around 33,000 objects.
The event also goes in parallel with an exhibition, that features designs by luminaries such as Dior, Givenchy, and Schiaparelli, with some fragile garments, like a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877, being presented via innovative mediums such as video animation, light projection, AI, and CGI. The sensory-rich exhibition is divided into three thematic categories inspired by the natural world: land, sea, and sky.
J.G. Ballard’s ‘The Garden of Time’
The gala’s official dress code, “The Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story. Flora and fauna are expected to feature prominently on the red carpet.
Leading the evening as co-chairs are celebrities Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth.
Since its inception in 1995, the Met Gala has become with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, whose vision and influence have been instrumental in the event’s prominence.
