The balaban/mey, a wooden instrument, plays a significant role in the musical cultures of Azerbaijan and Turkey. It is commonly used as a solo or accompanying instrument at folk festivities, weddings, and concerts.

Rooted in gold leaf or paint, illumination (tezhip) demands nuanced skills and techniques used in manuscripts, calligraphic texts, and miniatures. The chosen colors, patterns, and motifs carry profound symbolism to narrate a religious, traditional, or even legal text.
