Artists from the AlarmArt group have reimagined the Grand Tour tradition with a contemporary perspective. Hakan Esmer, Serdar Leblebici, Özgür Eryılmaz, and Semih Kaplan explored history, art, and architecture in Rome through their project titled “Rewind.” This exhibition, which captures the essence of Rome in patterns, photographs, and video notes, is open to visitors at CerModern until January 12, 2025.
The exhibition “Rewind/Roma” showcases how the four Turkish artists from AlarmArt transformed the timeless spirit of Rome into various artistic expressions. During this unique journey, Turkey’s Ambassador to Rome, Ömer Güçlük, provided valuable insights and contributed photographs to the project.
The artists visited key historical and artistic sites in Rome and documented their observations at locations such as the Borghese Gallery, Vatican Museums, MAXXI – National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Roman Forum, Villa Medici, and the Sistine Chapel. They enriched their experience with drawings, notes, photographs, and videos. The works of the Renaissance period and the intricate details of Baroque architecture significantly inspired the artists’ creative processes. By exploring Rome’s significance in the history of world art, the group examined the cultural fabric of the city through its enduring architectural heritage.
The Rewind project not only delved into Rome’s historical treasures but also reinterpreted the Grand Tour tradition through a modern artistic lens. Visitors can experience the “Rewind/Rome” exhibition, featuring iconic sites such as the Vatican Museums, Borghese Gallery, and the Sistine Chapel, at CerModern until January 12.
