Beatles’ creative project, a painting titled ‘Images of a Woman’, was made back then during their tour schedule at Tokyo Hilton and sold for $1.7 Mln at Christie’s.
This painting is believed by some experts to be the only artwork jointly crafted by all four Beatles (or at least signed by all four).
Initially estimated to fetch between $400,000 to $600,000, “Images of a Woman” surpassed all expectations, selling for nearly three times the high end of that estimate at $1,744,000.
Christie’s specialist Casey Rogers says the painting “crystallizes a magic moment in Beatles history.” Measuring 21.5 by 31 inches, it serves as a tangible relic imbued with contributions from each member of the legendary band.
Rogers remarked, “It’s such a rarity to have a work on paper outside their music catalog that is (a) physical relic, this tangible object with contributions from all four of The Beatles… It’s memorabilia, it’s a work of art, it appeals to probably a much larger cross-section of collectors… It’s a wonderful piece of storytelling.”
