American filmmaker Martin Scorsese will be honored with the Honorary Golden Bear at the upcoming 74th Berlin International Film Festival, taking place on February 20, 2024. The prestigious award, a recognition of his outstanding journey as a director, producer, and screenwriter, will be presented at a special ceremony in Berlin, where the festival will unfold from February 15 to 25, 2024.
The festival’s leadership, composed of Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian, praised Scorsese for his ability to tell deeply personal and universal stories. His influence on the world of cinema since the 1970s is undeniable. Scorsese’s filmography is extensive, boasting of iconic titles such as ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Raging Bull’, ‘Goodfellas’, ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘The Departed’, and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
Among Scorsese’s recent accomplishments is his film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ (2023), which tackles the ‘terror’ experienced by the Osage tribe in Oklahoma, United States.
