In celebration of Türkiye İş Bankası’s 100th anniversary, the “Grand Nature Model: Türkiye” project has been launched in partnership with MEXT, the technology hub of the Turkish Metal Industrialists’ Union. This initiative blends art and science using artificial intelligence, building a distinctive archive that captures Türkiye’s natural heritage.

Launched in collaboration with MEXT, the technology hub of the Turkish Metal Industrialists’ Union, as part of Türkiye İş Bankası’s 100th anniversary, the Great Nature Model: Türkiye project merges art and science through artificial intelligence to create an archive of Türkiye’s natural heritage.

Led by renowned digital artist Refik Anadol, the project combines visual and auditory data collected from 33 national parks with academic research, offering a new realm of exploration for nature enthusiasts, artists, and researchers. By integrating big data and algorithms with art, this initiative makes the timeless rhythm of nature visible through data sculptures and interactive experiences, emphasizing a sustainability-focused perspective.

One of the  aspects of the project is the Living Encyclopedia, an interactive knowledge and art platform. Users can explore academic insights through the Research module, create nature-inspired visual designs via the Createmodule, and experience AI-generated transformations of nature’s evolving forms in the Dream module.

As part of the project, Refik Anadol is also working on a data sculpture that represents Türkiye’s natural landscapes. This piece will transform AI-learned imagery from nature into a dynamic work of art.

Beyond offering an artistic experience, The Great Nature Model: Türkiye also sheds light on scientific data analysis and sustainability. Hakan Aran, General Manager of Türkiye İş Bankası, emphasized the significance of this initiative as the first AI-driven nature-themed art project, stating, “We are proud to support the Türkiye chapter of this meaningful and valuable global project, which unites art and artificial intelligence with a deep respect for nature and humanity.”

Refik Anadol highlighted the project’s goal of making Türkiye’s natural rhythms visible through digital art, while MESS Chairman Özgür Burak Akkol underscored the project’s crucial role in utilizing data—the fundamental component of artificial intelligence.

The Great Nature Model: Türkiye is an example of how artificial intelligence and art can merge to become a transformative force.  This project by Refik Anadol is significant not only for prompting reflection on the direction of art’s digital transformation but also for opening a chapter in the digital art world. With its focus on technological innovation and a sustainable future, the project contributes to reshaping the landscape of digital art.
