A group of 20 artists, who joined under Açık Masa (Open Table), Katılımcı Sanat Topluluğu (Participatory Art Community Turkey) (PACT), and Kamusal Sanat Laboratuvarı (Public Art Laboratory), protested Istanbul Modern. The protest took place in front of the museum with the slogan “Istanbul Modern Museum should lift its restriction on the free public day!”

The group was protesting against the restrictions imposed by the museum on the public day. They handed over the 5,500 signatures they collected through a Change.org campaign to the museum official.

Earlier in October, Istanbul Modern Museum limited their free public day to only four hours, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, due to new regulations. However, this decision has been criticized as arbitrary and unfair as it interferes with the public’s right to access cultural events despite their financial or social situation.

The artists who organized this festive action to respond to the silence of the Istanbul art scene also invited the museum to its public responsibility.
