Istanbul Modern Museum hosts Ozan Sağdıç’s exhibition “The Photographer’s Testimony.” The exhibition showcases a diverse array of works by Ozan Sağdıç (b. 1934), a seminal figure in Türkiye’s photographic history. It focuses on documentary photography, a genre with global resonance while illuminating Türkiye’s multifaceted social, political, economic, cultural, and visual evolution from the 1950s to the present.
Across his 70-year career, Ozan Sağdıç has documented Türkiye’s metamorphosis from various perspectives, contributing significantly to the nation’s visual archive, especially during a period when photography was less prevalent.
Featuring 127 black and white and color photographs, the exhibition encompasses portraits of pivotal political figures, influential figures in the realms of art and literature, and glimpses of everyday street life, capturing the essence of transformative decades from a humanistic viewpoint. By providing a visual panorama spanning from the 1950s onward, the exhibition also delves into the techniques and contexts behind Sağdıç’s work, showcasing vintage prints and examples from Hayat magazine.
