Nezaket Ekici Performances and Exhibition at Pi Artworks

Nezaket Ekici for her third solo exhibition with Pi Artworks, Dimensions of Discovery, performs in the gallery for three consecutive days, with each day dedicated to a different live performance. A video documenting her seminal Pars Pro Toto performance will also remain on show in the gallery space until 25 May.

Intense and task-oriented, Ekici’s performances blend energy and humor with moments of pain and physical endurance. However, these three performances are centered around sculptures. Sculpture either serves as the focal point of Ekici’s live events or is created by the artist as a result of her performance. Having studied sculpture and painting at Ludwig Maximilian University and the Academy of Fine Arts Munich from 1994 to 2000, she has recently reignited her interest in sculpture as a way of revisiting her artistic roots. Unlike many of the artist’s previous performances, which only leave behind remnants, the Dimensions of Discovery works aim to intentionally produce sculptures through the process.

Continuously striving to create new works, incorporate fresh perspectives, and unveil new levels of observation for her audience, Dimensions of Discovery sees Ekici link each of her consecutive performances both physically and conceptually. Each work—Essence, Cohesion Patterns, and Panta Rhei—exemplifies different visual dimensions: time and space, transience and creation, and the dichotomy between the everyday world and our inner beliefs. With each piece telling its own narrative, audiences will have the opportunity to experience Ekici over three consecutive days, witnessing her full physical commitment and intense focus resulting in new, distinctive sculptures as evidence of these events.
