Gallery Siyah Beyaz presents Sleeping Venus, an extraordinary solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Seval Şener, running from December 6, 2024, to January 4, 2025. This thought-provoking collection reinterprets the art historical and mythological roots of the nude, intertwining the sacred and the sensual in a striking visual narrative.

“Olympia” After Manet, 2023.

Şener’s works delve into the mythological figure of Venus and the biblical story of Adam and Eve, exploring their iconographic origins and their enduring presence in the history of art. By merging Western art’s celebrated genre of the nude with the intricate language of Eastern miniatures, the artist blurs the lines between celestial ideals and earthly realities.

The exhibition features a series of nudes, figurines, and reliefs inspired by iconic works from Botticelli, Titian, Velázquez, Manet, Rubens, and others. Şener deconstructs traditional notions of space and depth, reconstructing these masterpieces in a minimalist yet richly detailed miniature style that challenges and transforms their original contexts.

By highlighting contrasts—such as the divine and the profane, the sacred and the obscene—Sleeping Venus invites viewers to question the cultural and historical narratives surrounding the body, desire, and morality.

Join the opening night celebration on December 6 at 18:00, and immerse yourself in this powerful artistic dialogue. The exhibition is open daily (except Sundays) from 11:00 to 19:00 at Gallery Siyah Beyaz.
