Celebrating its 15th year in art, CerModern is hosting the photography exhibition “ARADA” by Saygun Dura as part of its 2025 opening program.
Ankara’s contemporary art center, CerModern, is set to present Saygun Dura’s exhibition titled “ARADA” on January 16. Curated by Prof. Dr. Ergin Çavuşoğlu, the exhibition will be displayed in the CerModern South Hangar Gallery.
The exhibition features two thematic sections inspired by Dura’s five years of work at Lake Van. While exploring the delicate boundaries between nature and humanity, the artist turns his lens toward the endangered ecosystem. On one hand, Dura captures the migratory journey of the pearl mullet, focusing on the challenges faced by this endangered species in its life cycle. On the other hand, he unveils the sculptural forms of the lake’s underwater silent architects—microbialites—through powerful metaphors in his photographs.
The title of the exhibition reflects the artist’s observations. Saygun Dura summarizes the story behind the exhibition as follows:
“The pearl mullet lingers between soda and freshwater as it adapts to survive. This process symbolizes their struggle, resilience, and evolutionary harmony with nature. Over five years, I traveled to Van to witness and document this captivating story.”
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with CerModern and Istanbul Concept, will be open to visitors from January 16 to February 16, 2025.
