Sevil Dolmacı Istanbul is proud to host the first solo exhibition in Türkiye by acclaimed Korean artist Kim Hyunsik. Titled “Intended Blank,” the exhibition runs from November 13 to December 13, 2024, at Villa Ipranosyan in Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
Kim Hyunsik, celebrated for his innovative combination of painting and sculpture, presents 60 carefully curated works, including pieces crafted exclusively for this exhibition and selections created between 2020 and 2023. His signature style involves the meticulous layering of epoxy resin, carving, and acrylic to create intricate flat sculptures that invite viewers to delve into the hidden layers of his art.
Hyunsik’s work draws inspiration from the East Asian philosophical concept of emptiness, redefining the Western notion of nothingness and focusing on the life force found within the void. His pieces are influenced by Korean master Yun Hyong-keun, as well as Abstract Expressionists like Mark Rothko and Agnes Martin.
This exhibition not only marks Hyunsik’s debut in Türkiye but also offers a profound exploration of East Asian aesthetics through modern techniques. Art enthusiasts are invited to experience the essence of “Intended Blank” firsthand, discovering the layers of silence, infinity, and divinity embedded within Hyunsik’s pieces.
