To celebrate its 30th anniversary, The Warhol Museum is presenting “KAWS + Warhol,” the first exhibition to explore the dark themes in both artists’ works. Using bright colors and pop culture references, both artists depict grim subjects like skulls and car crashes, highlighting the sinister elements in their art. The exhibition KAWS + Warhol magnifies these dark undertones by showcasing KAWS and Warhol together for the first time.
KAWS will also address Warhol’s commercialism by debuting a new series of paintings, sculptures, and installations inspired by his recent commission with General Mills. The exhibition features KAWS’ signature characters on the packaging of popular cereal boxes like Reese’s Puffs, Count Chocula, and Boo-Berry. These cereal-themed works will be displayed alongside Warhol’s iconic Brillo Boxes and his lesser-known series of paintings for children.
Additionally, in response to The Warhol’s new initiative, The Pop District, KAWS will unveil a monumental wooden sculpture in Pop Park, located directly across from the museum and visible from its entrance.
