This program, developed with contributions from art historians, academics, and artists and backed by NESCAFÉ, will be implemented in Nevşehir, Trabzon, Mardin, and Van in its inaugural year. Combining online courses with hands-on workshops, the initiative invites participants to explore modern and contemporary art through seminars and panel discussions on its historical development, interdisciplinary connections, and socio-political context. Additionally, artist-led workshops are designed to enhance participants’ creative perspectives.

The program includes theoretical seminars on modern and contemporary art, conducted by Assoc. Prof. Seda Yavuz, Assoc. Prof. Ebru Nalan Sülün, and Assoc. Prof. Ebru Yetişkin. A panel series, overseen by Assoc. Prof. Fırat Arapoğlu, will complement the workshops by addressing relevant artistic themes.

Participants will engage in practical artistic exploration under the guidance of experienced artists, creating their own works while exchanging ideas in a collaborative environment. Each workshop is tailored to the city hosting it, ensuring a localized and meaningful experience.

City-specific workshops include: At Nevşehir “Human Impact” with Prof. Dr. Necla Rüzgâr, at Trabzon “Sound and Culture” with Prof. Dr. Alper Maral, at Mardin“Subject and Biopolitics” with Sabire Susuz, at Van  “Nature and Art” with Assoc. Prof. Ali Asgar Çakmakcı

Applications opened on February 7, 2025. Eligible candidates include individuals under 35 years old with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in painting, sculpture, or ceramics, residing in one of the four designated cities. The program will accept the first 100 qualified applicants, and those who successfully complete it will receive an “İstanbul Modern ‘On the Path of Art’ Educational Program Participation Certificate.”

Neslihan Varol, Director of Education and Social Projects at İstanbul Modern, emphasized the program’s impact, stating: “We aim to extend our art education initiatives beyond Istanbul, ensuring greater access to learning opportunities. Our goal is to support fine arts graduates who struggle to advance their careers by fostering a collaborative learning environment that enhances professional development.”
