This September, Brooklyn will host a powerful new chapter of the Gaza Biennale — a global, decentralized exhibition shaped by the resilience and creativity of Palestinian artists working in the midst of war. From September 10–14, 2025, Recess will unveil the Biennale’s first New York pavilion, featuring works by 22 artists from Gaza. A condensed version of the exhibition will remain on view at the same venue from September 18 through December 20, 2025.
Launched in 2024, the Gaza Biennale is unlike any other. Born in Gaza and unfolding across cities worldwide, it brings together works that defy constraint and insist on visibility. From painting to video, from digital projects to conceptual installations, the exhibition is a testament to art’s urgent role as messenger: voices carried from Gaza to the world.
The New York pavilion follows acclaimed iterations in Athens, Istanbul, London, Padua, Valencia, and even Mont Blanc. Rather than a fixed traveling show, each presentation is curated independently, adapting to its local context while remaining anchored in a collective spirit. This fluidity allows the Biennale to move swiftly and meaningfully, unbound by the slow response of larger institutions, affirming art’s power to respond to the immediacy of our times.
At its core, the Gaza Biennale embodies art’s deepest responsibility — to stand for freedom, against the forces that seek erasure. The works on view in New York will offer an intimate glimpse into the visions of 22 Palestinian artists. Programming details and participating artists will be announced soon, but what is certain is that these works carry more than aesthetic value; they carry the urgency of survival, memory, and resistance.
