The Küçükçekmece Cemevi project, designed by EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture, was awarded the grand prize for ‘Future Project of the Year’ at this year’s World Architecture Festival. The project was selected as the winner among the first-place winners of 14 different categories. This is the first time a project from Türkiye has received this award.
Küçükçekmece Cemevi project was also the winning project in the “Power and Justice” category of the WAFX award, which is given to designs that address global issues such as climate change, health, technology, ethics, and values from an innovative perspective.
The project was designed as a gathering place based on the “state of oneness,” with its structure revealing architecture’s capacity to produce a critical voice about cultural, religious, and political issues. In addition to Küçükçekmece Cemevi, the “Centipede” project, designed together with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, won the WAFX award in the “Smart Cities” category; the Archaeological Site Cover, designed with Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, received the Commendable Award in the “Cultural Buildings of the Future” category.
