Contemporary Istanbul will be offering both virtual and physical events for the first time this year. The art fair will take place between 16 – 20 December 2020, with the VIP preview between 14 – 15 December.
On the Inclusiveness of Art, Artists and International Communication
The15th edition of the art fair, which has been held under the main sponsorship of Akbank for 15 years, will meet art lovers on both physical and digital platforms on the date planned, with the decision taken by the Contemporary Istanbul Advisory Board.
Real-Time Remote Purchasing Practices on Digital Platform
Contemporary Istanbul will be held at the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center this year. All visitors will be able to enter the fair area with accreditation by notifying the days and hours of their arrival. The fair will require a HES code from visitors and the visit will be a maximum of 4 hours. In addition to ventilation systems and temperature controls, measures such as time-phased entry, strategic placement and routed visitor flow will also be implemented.
The online fair will provide a structure where visitors, galleries and artists can interact with each other and make remote purchases in real time. The launch of this symbiotic, experiential platform draws attention with the fact that it is held at such a time in 2020, where the pandemic has a big impact on our lives and the effects of technology and social networks on our daily lives are understood more clearly.
The platform will allow art lovers from all over the world to participate in the cultural event and access exclusive content online. Contemporary Istanbul also aims “to be the first international art fair to fully embrace the digital revolution while preserving tradition with a physical space”.
“An Opportunity to Revive Art and the Art Community”
Ali Güreli, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Contemporary Istanbul, expressed their excitement for having the opportunity to revive the art and the art community on the 15th anniversary of CI, saying, “Without any exception, all creative industries and a large part of the art world were very much affected by the epidemic, but we are quite pleased to see the high interest and support of art lovers who have already started to make pre-reservations to participate in this year’s event.”
The15th edition of Contemporary Istanbul fair is sponsored by Akbank acting as the main sponsor of the exhibition for the 15th time and also sponsored by international brands including global technology company Siemens, leading luxury automobile manufacturer Audi, and the world’s largest international airline company Turkish Airlines.
