A new chamber with blue painted walls, a remarkably uncommon color in Pompeian dwellings, has been uncovered in Pompeii during recent excavations.

According to archaeologists, recently discovered blue walls with female figures represent the four seasons and allegorical representations of agriculture and pastoralism.

The excavations also unearthed construction materials, ready to be used in renovations, as well as a pile of already consumed oyster shells, which is believed once crushed, were probably added to plaster and mortar mixes.

Experts also found fifteen transport amphorae and a bronze set consisting of two jugs and two oil lamps.

The recent excavation activities are part of a larger project to secure an area that includes more than 13,000 rooms in 1,070 housing units.

“Pompeii is truly a treasure chest that never ceases to surprise us and arouse s amazement because, every time we dig, we find something beautiful and significant,” said the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano.
