Drawing inspiration from Şahika Tekand’s Karanlık Korkusu (Fear of Darkness), the play Corrosion (Aşınma), written and directed by Tekand and performed as a solo show by Yiğit Özşener, will be staged in London on October 3–4.
Produced by Studio Oyuncuları, Corrosion will be presented at the Battersea Arts Center, with tickets priced at £50. As part of a festival where 75 shows sold out, this will mark the UK premiere of the piece, performed for a limited audience.
Originally written and staged by Tekand in 2008, Erosion has been reimagined as a solo performance, highlighting the actor’s virtuosity while rigorously applying the principles of Performative Staging and Acting Method. In the play, Özşener navigates real-time challenging conditions, offering the audience a display of skillful and playful stage action while conveying the struggle of presence.
Yiğit Özşener received the Best Actor Award at the 24th Afife Theatre Awards for this performance, while playwright and director Şahika Tekand won the Best Playwright Award at the 29th Turkish Theatre Critics Association Awards.
