Locarno Film Festival Come to Istanbul

From November 14–24, 2024, Istanbul Modern Cinema will showcase 11 standout films from the Locarno Film Festival, including Turkish premieres of award-winning works that celebrate Locarno’s legacy of innovative, boundary-pushing cinema.

From November 14 to 24, 2024, Istanbul Modern Cinema will host a remarkable showcase of films from the prestigious Locarno Film Festival, bringing 11 standout works to Turkish screens. Celebrating its 77th anniversary, Locarno has a storied reputation for highlighting innovative cinema and standing firm against mainstream industry pressures.

For many of these films, this Istanbul event marks their Turkish premiere. The lineup includes Toxic (Akiplėša), the debut film by Lithuanian director Saulė Bliuvaitė and this year’s Golden Leopard winner. Also featured is celebrated director Hong Sang-soo’s latest, By the Stream (Suyoocheon), alongside Olivia & The Clouds (Olivia & Las Nubes)—an animated film that delves into the memories of a Dominican woman’s past relationship, with an evocative soundtrack by Turkish composer Cem Mısırlıoğlu.
