In 2014, four friends founded Queerwaves as a DJ collective. Today, it is well known in Turkey’s culture and arts scene and consists of members from the LGBTI+ community, including artists, editors, curators, and DJs. The community gathers rave lovers in Istanbul’s Sarıyer district.
The first ButFest by Queerwaves was held in 2021. The festival aims to bring together everyone who appreciates rave culture and energy in the city. It is a non-profit organization that gathers a creative community.
In its first year, ButFest was promoted through word of mouth and social media posts. It was organized with the title “ButFest on the Boat.”
Queerwaves has organized parties with dozens of DJs, artists, and institutions.”
