The Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO), Borusan Quartet, and Borusan Music House are gearing up to bring music enthusiasts together with a series of concerts featuring all genres of music in the upcoming season. During a press conference at the Borusan Sanat building, Zeynep Hamedi, Borusan Holding Board Member, emphasized the significance of this season, which marks the 100th anniversary of the Republic’s establishment. She added that Borusan Sanat is thrilled to bring this enthusiasm to its works and concerts for the new season.
Exclusive concerts for the 100th year of the Republic
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic, Borusan Sanat has commissioned works from three Turkish composers. The aim is to support the works of Turkish composers and contribute to the Turkish music library. On October 12, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Fazıl Say’s 6th Symphony, which was composed for the 100th anniversary. Zeynep GedizlioÄźlu’s new work, commissioned by Borusan Sanat, will premiere on May 9th. On October 23, the Borusan Quartet will present Cem Oslu’s new work, which is also a commission by Borusan Sanat. As part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations hosted by Borusan Holding on November 2, BIFO, under the direction of BIPO’s honorary conductor GĂĽrer Aykal, will perform Ahmed Adnan Saygun’s Yunus Emre Oratorio. Saygun was one of the first-generation composers of the Republic.
Carlo Tenon as guest conductor of BIPO
Carlo Tenan, who has won great acclaim from audiences for the concerts he has conducted as a guest conductor of BIFO, will be the artistic director of BIPO from the 2023-2024 season onwards. With his deep understanding of contemporary music and his interpretations of symphonic music, opera, and ballet, Tenan is one of the most talented conductors of our time. He has conducted many prestigious international orchestras, including Tenan, Del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthaus Berlin, Bologna, La Fenice in Venice, Massimo in Palermo, Verdi di Milano, Slovenian Philharmonic, Innsbruck, and Linz Bruckner Orchestra and has also collaborated with the globally renowned Ludovico Einaudi.
Tenan expressed his excitement about becoming the new artistic director of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, in a statement where he shared his plans for the future. He said, “Together, we will continue to explore new horizons in music, push the limits of our creativity, and touch hearts with our performances. We will make Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra and Borusan Sanat shine even more on the world stage. I would also like to thank our viewers who support us at every opportunity. The Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO) will hold its Opening Concert on Thursday, October 12th, at 8:00 PM at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage. BIPO will be performing the world concert featuring the 6th Symphony “A 100-Year-Old Child”, composed by the world-renowned pianist and composer, Fazıl Say. The symphony was commissioned by Borusan Sanat.
