Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, declared June 2024-June 2025 as "Nâzım Hikmet Year", readies to host an exhibition on Nâzım Hikmet between May 9 and September 9 as part of this event.

The exhibition “Yaşamak Güzel Şey Be Be Kardeşim” and the “Nâzım Hikmet Symposium at the Table of the Sun” will start on May 9 as part of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality’s “Nâzım Hikmet Year”. Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which declared June 2024-June 2025 as “Nâzım Hikmet Year”, will host an exhibition on Nâzım Hikmet between May 9 and September 9 as part of this event.

Taking its title from Nâzım Hikmet’s 1962 novel Yaşamak Güzel Şey Be Kardeşim, the exhibition consists of two sections in two different venues simultaneously. Within the scope of the exhibition, a symposium titled “Nâzım Hikmet Symposium at the Table of the Sun” will be organized on May 9-10. The two-day symposium will focus on the works and life of world poet Nâzım Hikmet and the years he spent in Bursa Prison.

The exhibition, which will open simultaneously with the symposium, is curated by Emre Zeytinoğlu, with space design by Savaş Çekiç and communication design by Nejat Biçen. The first part of the exhibition will take place at the Şefik Bursalı Art Gallery of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and is a documentary exhibition consisting of texts and visuals about Nâzım Hikmet. The exhibition, organized with the support of the Social History Research Foundation of Turkey (TÜSTAV), the Nâzım Hikmet Foundation and the Piraye Collection, provides the audience with chronological information accompanied by visuals.

The second section at the Tayyare Cultural Center of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality features the works of artists who focus on Nâzım Hikmet and reflect their intellectual or emotional ties with him. Most of these works are part of the “Ahmet Merey Collection”. On the other hand, works by four artists, including Nâzım Hikmet’s niece Ayşe Yaltırım, are included in this exhibition from outside the collection.

The exhibition includes works by Asaf Zeki Yüksel, Ayşe Yaltırım, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Huri Kiriş, İrfan Okan, Memet Güreli, Metin Karayağız, Murat Germen, Mustafa Horasan, Mustafa Orkun Müftüoğlu, Nalan Yırtmaç, Neslihan Pala, Savaş Çekiç, Selçuk Fergökçe, Sezai Özdemir, Taner Güven, Umut Gemeç.
