Oasis: A Britpop Resurrection

/

After 15 years of silence, sibling rivalry, and speculation, the Gallagher brothers have done the unthinkable: Oasis is reuniting. The legendary Britpop band, which gave the world anthems like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger,” announced a worldwide tour set to kick off in the summer of 2025. The announcement, delivered with cryptic flair via X, hinted at the epic scale of the comeback: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

This will mark the first time the Manchester-born band has played together since 2009 when a backstage brawl in Paris led to Noel Gallagher’s abrupt departure and the band’s subsequent dissolution. That infamous incident, where Liam reportedly smashed one of Noel’s guitars, capped years of public feuding between the brothers—a soap opera that has fascinated fans almost as much as their music.

The tour will begin with two nights at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 4, 2025, followed by massive gigs in Manchester, London’s Wembley Stadium, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, and Dublin’s Croke Park. The band has promised this will be their only European shows next year, making it one of the most anticipated live events of the decade.

Oasis, synonymous with the Britpop movement of the 1990s, were once locked in a fierce rivalry with Blur, the London band co-founded by Damon Albarn. Their music, brimming with swagger and melancholy, became the soundtrack of a generation. The timing of the reunion is poetic, coming 30 years after the release of their landmark album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?.

In a nod to their roots, the band will also release unheard tracks from the first recording session of their debut album Definitely Maybe—a nostalgic trip down memory lane for fans who have waited decades for this moment.

While speculation about an appearance at Glastonbury 2025 has been quashed, the news of their reunion tour has sent ripples through the music world. Tickets for the UK dates go on sale this Saturday, and anticipation is already at a fever pitch.

For years, the Gallagher brothers have communicated through public barbs and social media jabs. But as Noel hinted last year, “never say never” has finally come true. This reunion isn’t just about music; it’s a reckoning, a revival, and perhaps the last great act of one of Britain’s most iconic bands.
