London Fashion Week (LFW) Spring/Summer 2025 opened with a bold fusion of sustainability and high-fashion glamour on September 12, featuring a hotly anticipated party by fast-fashion giant H&M and pop star Charli XCX, alongside two second-hand fashion shows. H&M’s surprise collaboration with the British singer injected fresh excitement into the week’s events, overshadowing some of the established designer showcases as the Swedish retailer made an unexpected splash.

As the British Fashion Council (BFC) celebrates the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week, the focus has shifted to capturing the attention of younger, more eco-conscious audiences, particularly as numerous designers have exited the event in recent years. This year’s LFW aims to make a statement on sustainability, acknowledging fashion’s significant environmental impact.

Kicking off the festivities, online auction platform eBay hosted its “Endless Runway,” featuring a dynamic showcase of second-hand designer pieces available for live purchase through the platform. Meanwhile, Oxfam made its return with the “Style for Change” runway, in collaboration with second-hand marketplace Vinted. The show, curated by designer Bay Garnett, highlighted the creativity and excitement of second-hand fashion, aiming to dismantle outdated stigmas surrounding pre-loved clothing.

Models took to the runway in vibrant, playful ensembles—mixing textures and patterns to show off the diversity and innovation of sustainable fashion. After the show, some of the featured pieces will be available for purchase on Vinted, offering a direct way for fashion lovers to engage with sustainable choices.

As London Fashion Week continues until September 17, the emphasis on environmental responsibility and inclusivity marks a new chapter for the event, reminding audiences that fashion’s future lies in creativity, collaboration, and conscious consumption.
