Istanbul Modern’s Director to Resign after 11 years

Istanbul Modern announced General Director of the museum Levent Çalıkoğlu will be stepping down by the end of September.

Istanbul Modern announced on Friday that Levent Çalıkoğlu, the General Director of Istanbul Modern, will be stepping down from his position by the end of September. According to the announcement, Çalıkoğlu has been the museum’s General Director since 2012, and his departure is due to his desire to advance his career. Çalıkoğlu will be leaving his position on Sept 30, 2023.

The museum has announced that they will keep everyone informed about upcoming appointments.

From 2012 to 2023, Çalıkoğlu served as the head of the museum. Before that, he held the position of curator responsible for the museum’s collection from 2004 to 2007, and later served as the Chief Curator of Istanbul Modern from 2007 to 2014. Çalıkoğlu has authored several articles and books on modern and contemporary art in Turkey.
