Halil Altındere shared his new work bearing the phrase “Free Osman Kavala” on his Instagram account. Known for productions that interrogate political, social, and cultural codes and center on resistance against oppressive systems, the artist often renders the absurd and harsh realities of everyday life visible in his work.
Solo Presentation at Art Basel Qatar
Represented in Türkiye by Pilot Gallery, Altındere will take part in Art Basel Qatar, to be held from 3–7 February 2026, with a solo presentation by the gallery. His works have been exhibited at institutions such as MoMA PS1, the Centre Pompidou, MAXXI, and MAK, and he has participated in major international events including the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and Manifesta.
Civil society and human rights activist Osman Kavala was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in a case related to the Gezi Park protests on charges of “attempting to overthrow the government.” As of 17 January 2026, he has been held at Silivri Prison for 3,000 days.
