The first event of SALT’s 2026 program series, which opens a discussion on archival and research practices in the field of graphic design, will take place on January 15 at SALT Beyoğlu. Featuring Christopher Çolak, Esen Karol, Gözde Oral, and Sezin Romi, the talk will focus on the formation processes of graphic design archives, research methodologies, and the role of archives in historiography.
Throughout 2026, SALT will host a series of programs addressing archival and research practices related to graphic design. The program opens with a talk titled “Graphic Design Archives,” to be held on Thursday, January 15, at 6:30 PM at Açık Sinema, SALT Beyoğlu. With the participation of Christopher Çolak, Esen Karol, Gözde Oral, and Sezin Romi, the discussion will examine how graphic design archives are formed, how they are researched, and how they shape the writing of design history.
Graphic Design Archive
Organized as part of SALT’s Graphic Design Archive initiative, carried out with the support of Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, the event will address both accumulations related to the history of graphic design in Turkey and international examples. Moderated by Esen Karol, the program will feature Christopher Çolak and Gözde Oral reflecting on the necessity of building archives through their production practices and academic experiences, while Sezin Romi will share insights into archival and research processes conducted within SALT Research.
In recent years, SALT Research has developed a significant body of graphic design–focused archival material. A selection from the Sadık Karamustafa Archive, along with the e-publication Journeys, Rituals and an Archive: The Writings of Sadık Karamustafa (1986–2019), has been made accessible online. Cataloguing and digitization work on the Bülent Erkmen Archive is ongoing, while the Yurdaer Altıntaş Archive is among the institution’s newly acquired collections.
The talk is free and open to the public. Further details can be found at saltonline.org.
