Édouard Louis, one of France’s rising writers and one of the most striking voices in contemporary literature, will be a guest at Moda Sahnesi in Istanbul on June 18 and 19. Louis, who draws on his own life experiences in his works to highlight social inequalities, marginalization, and class violence, is preparing to meet his readers in Turkey for the first time.
Turkish audiences first encountered Édouard Louis through the stage adaptation of his novel Who Killed My Father, produced by Moda Sahnesi. The play, translated into Turkish by Ayberk Erkay, directed by Kemal Aydoğan, and staged by Onur Ünsal, premiered in 2020 and has been running continuously for five seasons. Following the special performance on June 18, Louis will be among the audience.
Following this meeting, on the evening of June 19, Louis will hold a discussion open to the audience, moderated by Ayberk Erkay. This conversation, which will cover topics ranging from Louis’ approach to literature to social gender and class conflicts, and the ways in which personal memory is transformed into writing, will offer an opportunity to gain a closer insight into the author’s world of thought.
