Bringing together the works of Özge Enginöz and Gözde Mulla, the exhibition “Coming Closer to the World” opens on January 30 at Kasa Galeri, curated by Gamze Öztürk. The exhibition explores the multifaceted relationship between humans and the world.
As part of Kasa Galeri’s duo exhibitions, Coming Closer to the World presents works by Enginöz and Mulla that deeply examine the human-world connection, using the concept of home as a focal point. The exhibition is centered around the idea of coming closer to the world—a concept that reflects the human effort to transcend boundaries and establish connections with the surrounding environment.
Özge Enginöz explores the theme of home through the concept of damage, examining how we relate to the world and to one another. Her works revolve around themes of burning, decay, and destruction, offering a reflection on how these processes manifest in our lives.
Gözde Mulla, on the other hand, forms another layer of the exhibition by merging paper and pencil in different possibilities to investigate the spatial meaning of home. She examines the memory of the home and the reflections of social structures within space through the concepts of voids and thresholds, uncovering both its physical and cultural dimensions.
The exhibition’s narrative takes shape in harmony with Kasa Galeri’s space, unfolding through interconnected rooms that present a journey into the foundation, continuity, and unfinished nature of the home. Inviting viewers to witness the transformation of space, the exhibition also highlights the traces left behind by these transitions.
The exhibition takes its name from the phrase “coming closer to the world” in Ursula K. Le Guin’s poem “From the People of the Houses of Earth in the Valley to the Ones Who Will Come After Them on Earth” in her book Always Coming Home.
Curated by Gamze Öztürk, Coming Closer to the World will be on view at Kasa Galeri from January 30 to March 14.
