Armed Attack on Seren Yüce at His Home

Award-winning filmmaker Seren Yüce, recipient of the Golden Orange Award, was injured in an armed attack at his home in Istanbul. Yüce was hospitalised after being shot by an assailant reported to have been wearing a helmet and posing as a delivery person. A large-scale investigation has been launched into the incident.

The director, known for works such as Club, Masum, and Majority, was attacked at his residence in Istanbul’s Şişli district. According to reports, a helmeted individual rang the doorbell and opened fire when the door was answered. Yüce was shot in the leg and taken to Acıbadem Hospital in Ataşehir.

Sources indicate that Yüce was conscious following the attack and was scheduled to undergo surgery at around 6:00 pm to remove bullet fragments from his leg. Police units dispatched to the scene carried out investigations inside and around the residence, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing.

Journalist Şenay Aydemir commented on the incident in a social media post, stating:

“Seren Yüce was the target of an armed attack by a helmeted individual posing as a delivery worker. He has been taken into surgery and is in good condition. This attack must be clarified as soon as possible.”

About Seren Yüce

Born in Istanbul on 1 January 1975, Seren Yüce completed his undergraduate studies in Archaeology at Bilkent University. He began his film career in advertising and television before emerging as a versatile filmmaker working as a director, screenwriter, and producer.

Yüce served as assistant director on The Edge of Heaven and as first assistant director on acclaimed productions including Takva, Anlat İstanbul, and Pandora’s Box.

His debut feature Majority garnered widespread national and international acclaim, earning him numerous awards, including the Lion of the Future at the Venice Film Festival, Best Film at the Mumbai Film Festival, and both Best Film and Best Director at the 47th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. The film also received Best Screenplay and Best Film awards from SİYAD and the Yeşilçam Awards.

Reaching wider audiences with the series Masum and Club, Yüce has also signed projects such as Rüzgârda Salınan Nilüfer and Majority as director, screenwriter, and producer. Widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices of Turkey’s new-generation cinema, Yüce is known for building a strong bridge between cinematic storytelling and digital platform productions.
