A panel discussion titled “We Need a Theatre Museum,” focusing on the preservation and transmission of Turkey’s theatrical memory, will take place on January 10 at Depo Istanbul. The event brings the social responsibility of safeguarding theatre heritage into focus and invites a broader public discussion on the need for a dedicated theatre museum.
The necessity of preserving, documenting, and passing on Turkey’s theatrical cultural heritage—long emphasized by the Turkey Theatre Foundation through its enduring call, “We need a theatre museum”—is once again brought to the agenda. Centered on this call, the event will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Depo Istanbul.
Moderated by Kerem Karaboğa, the panel will feature Esen Çamurdan, Gül Pulhan, and Mehmet Kerem Özel as speakers. The discussion will address why a theatre museum is needed, why protecting theatrical heritage constitutes a social responsibility, and how this responsibility can strengthen a shared culture of collective life. These questions will be examined from multiple perspectives by experts in their respective fields.
The event will also open discussion on topics such as archiving the history of theatre in Turkey, making these archives accessible to the public, keeping theatre memory alive, and the contribution of theatrical heritage to social and cultural life. The talk aims to bring together everyone interested in theatre around a shared platform for dialogue.
The event is free and open to the public.
