The 11th Ayvalık AIMA Music Festival, organized by the Ayvalık International Music Academy (AIMA), began with its opening concert on July 25.
A Rich Repertoire
This year, AIMA continues its collaboration with Greece’s prestigious Molyvos International Music Festival (MIMF). Young violinists Evangelia Koutsodimou and Ioannis Nikolis, who gave an impressive performance at the Castle of Lesbos last year, will take the stage this time on August 6 at Sabancı University’s Creative Technologies Workshop in Küçükköy. The artists will present a rich repertoire ranging from Bach to Paganini and from Kreisler to Ysaÿe. On August 19, in a concert bringing together AIMA violin masterclass instructors Marc Danel and Pelin Halkacı Akın, along with Yağmur Tekin (viola), Artemis Sis Balkız (viola), Çağ Erçağ (cello), and Gözde Yaşar (cello), Tchaikovsky’s and Brahms’ string sextets will be performed.
Special Recital for Ravel Year
On August 29, at the AIMA Haluk Barutçuoğlu House, pianist Emre Yavuz and musicologist Prof. Filiz Ali will present a special narrated recital in honor of the “Ravel Year.”
As the Festival Draws to a Close
On September 3, the CelloPianoDuo (Dilbağ Tokay – cello, Emine Serdaroğlu – piano) will perform selections from their Dreamlike albums at the Cunda Bekir Coşkun Library. On September 6, the Tilif-Yaşar-Yakar Trio, consisting of İmge Tilif (violin), Gözde Yaşar (cello), and İnci Yakar Birol (piano), will interpret piano trios by Haydn and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy at Pür Records Studio in Cunda.
AIMA Masterclass Final Concerts
Throughout the festival, between July and September, AIMA Masterclass final concerts will be held in the flute, clarinet, violin, piano, and cello departments. All masterclass concerts are open to the public and free of charge.
