OMM Marks Its 5th Anniversary

OMM celebrates its 5th anniversary with Creatures of Comfort, an exhibition that merges contemporary art, design, and nature, on view until July 2025.

On September 8, 2024, Odunpazarı Modern Museum (OMM) in Eskişehir celebrated its fifth anniversary by launching the exhibition, Creatures of Comfort. Curated by OMM’s co-founder and creative director, İdil Tabanca, the exhibition brings together an eclectic collection of contemporary works that blur the lines between art, design, and functionality. This captivating showcase will remain open to the public until July 20, 2025.

Creatures of Comfort delves into the intersection of modern life and nature, an increasingly distant element for a 21st-century world where humans spend a vast majority of their lives indoors. The exhibition reimagines how natural forms and materials can harmonize with everyday life, reintroducing nature into urban spaces. By merging raw, organic materials like wood, rock, and soil into everyday objects, the artists seek to infuse functional designs with warmth and humanity, responding to a deep-seated longing for simplicity amidst modern life’s complexity.

Featuring international artists and designers—such as Ahmet Doğu İpek, Andrea Branzi, Marc Quinn, and Audrey Large—the exhibition challenges traditional boundaries in painting, sculpture, and furniture design. Works by these creators revive the link between form and function while breathing new life into household objects. The exhibition reflects the damage caused by overpopulation, climate change, and pandemics, tapping into a collective nostalgia for a deeper connection with nature.

Visitors can expect to see whimsical, unconventional designs that elevate everyday items to cultural artifacts, reflecting the ideals, beliefs, and fantasies of a world shaped by modern challenges.

As OMM celebrates its fifth anniversary, Creatures of Comfort stands as a tribute to the transformative power of contemporary art and design, inviting audiences to rediscover nature within the confines of modern living.

For those looking to experience the exhibition firsthand, Creatures of Comfort will be on view at OMM until July 25, 2025.
