‘Star Wars’ Script Sold at Auction

An original draft of a "Star Wars" script, believed to have been left behind in a London apartment by Harrison Ford, fetched £10,795 at auction.

An original draft of a “Star Wars” script, believed to have been left behind in a London apartment by Harrison Ford, the actor famous for portraying Han Solo, fetched £10,795 ($13,600) at a U.K. auction held on Feb. 17.

This script is reported to have been utilized during Ford’s time in London for the production of the inaugural installment of the iconic saga, initially titled “The Adventures Of Luke Starkiller,” filmed at Elstree Studios located north of London.

The fourth draft of the screenplay, dated March 15, 1976, found its new owner, an Austrian collector, at Excalibur Auctions in Hertfordshire, just north of London.

Left behind in the London flat Ford had rented during that period, the script was discovered alongside shooting schedules, which sold for £4,826, and a letter presumably from an agent or a friend, which fetched £177.80.

Over the years, the landlords of the property had kept these items, unaware of their significance.

The incomplete and unbound script, containing revisions, notably introduces the character of Han Solo on page 56.

The release of the film in 1977 propelled Ford to international stardom. He reprised his role in the sequels “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) and “Return Of The Jedi” (1983), and returned to the iconic character in “The Force Awakens” (2015).
